Ingredients vs. Nutrients:
Shoe leather is a source of protein, but it is not very nutritious
One size fits all?:
Bag says “Adult” food, but fine print “all life stages”- it’s puppy food!
Is your dog on a feeding trial?
Some foods have not been tested in feeding trials, only ‘formulated’ from a recipe to meet AAFCO guidelines.
Key Nutritional Factors:
Companies are only required to report a minimum or maximum value, but not both. (ie Protein min 15%, what is the max? In some foods it’s 70% – dangerously high)
Quick test:
Call the toll-free number on a bag of food and ask the manufacturer! (No toll-free number … hmmm?!)
Too much of a good thing?
Vitamin D has been linked to cavity-like problems in cat diets. About 1/3 of cat diets have too MUCH vitamin D and is resulting in tooth root damage.
